Thanks for taking some time to tune in and have a look at one of our product review videos. Today we're looking at the code lock, the K42 manufactured by a company called Bewater or Bewater, depending on how you pronounce it. Now actually owned by the company Siemens, which is quite a big electronic company. But needless to say, this particular product has been around for a long, long time. I remember when I was on the tools fitting this particular K42 keypad, so I'm quite familiar with it. And it has some unique designs.

I mean, one of the benefits is it's not quite that much costly, which is a really good plus. And it has some really, really good features. It's easy to program, and it's simple to operate, etc. So let's get down into the nitty gritty of it and let's have a look at it in a little bit more detail. So here you go. Here's the actual code lock again.

It's made out of a cast, as opposed to a plastic, so again it's very, very durable in that respect. And of course, the bottom as you can feel is very, very tactile there. Good, positive action there in regards to the buttons, and probably one of the popularities with this particular type of one is that it's built to last, and you can tell there by the design, etc. The centre button there, number five, has got the raised little blip on it, that allows you then to centralise your fingers should you be hard not to be able to see the actual numbers. So that's great. It has also indicators on here to tell you whether or not the door is going to be open and so forth, and give you information regarding the operation of the actual code lock itself. Now the key here, which you would have normally, it would come with a set of keys, and they've changed the design slightly on these new ones.

Before it used to be just a little cam and you'd turn it and then pull the actual cam out. They've changed that now to a threaded version, so you've got to keep on turning it to get it out, so it's probably a lot more durable and a lot stronger than the old type as well. Just a little bit of a top tip for you as well, even on the older versions you will have here a little serial number and some of the older models of the K series, K42, would have a number stamped on here, and normally it'll be the key number. Like for an example, this one here is key number 12. Can you zoom in the close-up to see that? Okay, so that's key number 12, which means that this is key number 12. So if you lose your key, if you look underneath it, you can find out what they key number is and we can order you up spare keys should you lose your keys.

So that's a little bit of a top tip for you there. Now also as well, what I've noticed on the new ones as well, they've put two little drain holes in the bottom here as well to allow if moisture does get in, then the ideal thing is to let it get out, so that's what that may be designed there. Now I've taken the back off this one. And as you can see here again, solid cast construction.

Brilliant for screwing onto any form of substrate and on the back here as well they've got this sponge pad. And the sponge pad then will seal it in against the bricks or the mortar or whatever you're deciding to fit it to. It also has a tamper button here, so if anybody tries to physically attack it, then it can create tamperer SP alarm that is situated on the inside. So if we go on in a little bit further here now, what you will see inside here, is you've got the power supply there. No problem at all as you can see, and that's where you put your 12 volts, 24 volts, or 12 volt power supply into it.

You've got a set of contacts there at the bottom which the contacts will connect to your strike release or to your mag, etc. And on the other side here then you've got the ability to alter your timers, etc., and also a push to release button should you want to.

It has the ability as well, you can see it on the new one here. You can change the time as well. Sorry, you can change the light. Just have it on or off on the front as well if you want. And also here as well it's got the timer here as to how long the release is released once you've actually pressed in your buttons, so maybe three up to five seconds to release, and then it would relock again. This is the actual part where you would change the codes.

Now you can put two codes in there. It clearly shows there, code one, code two. And you can have two separate codes there operating this particular type of lock.

So it's a good all-around key coded lock. It just works. Sometimes it's so simple in its design, and probably one of its reasons why it's popular is because it just works. There's no programming so to speak where you've got to have a master code and stuff like that. You just take it off, change your code around, pop it back on, screw it back onto the wall, job done. It's as simple as that. So it does have its unique advantages in that respect.
