In light of the breadth of the current Massachusetts History and Social Science Standards (dating from 2003), our district Social Studies Committee made the decision to select for each grade level and high school course only the most important content standards to include in our maps. We feel that our students are better served by focusing on less content, but greater depth of knowledge. This allows for greater integration of social studies and literacy, and a greater focus on the reading, thinking and writing skills that will be important for students in their futures as college students and citizens.
